The fuller tale

Lys completes the Triarchy alongside Tyrosh and Myr, its perfumed reputation for pleasure and poison sitting oddly beside its very real naval power — Lysene ships form a substantial part of the fleet that first contests the Stepstones with Daemon Targaryen, and later sail again, under the admiral Sharako Lohar, to break the Velaryon blockade of the Gullet at Otto Hightower’s invitation.

Lys pays the smallest price of the three Triarchy cities for that second campaign, and knows it — Lysene ships are held back from the worst of the Gullet’s fighting while Myrish and Tyroshi crews are all but annihilated, a discrepancy Sharako Lohar’s own allies notice immediately and never quite forgive, seeding the very war between the Triarchy’s members that follows hard on the Dance’s own ending.
